I have been somewhat in awe of Picasso ... dear Pablo the painter for many years, not so much the man. The mental infatuation began when I was still quite young and ill informed, I made the assumption that this mad painter couldn't paint to save himself ... then I discovered his earlier works, and saw for myself that he in fact could paint, and was truly a master. As a young rebelious artist, this intrigued me and I found myself needing to understand the man and his work on every level. So I began to paint one of his paintings ... as a technical excercise, this then moved to my need to understand him as a person, so I added a portrait of Picasso himself, then another one, and 18 years later this is the finished work. I still don't know Pablo Picasso the man, but to a greater degree I now understand Pablo Picasso the artist a little more.
I am exploring what happens to the human body and spirit when it strays from the path of what is natural, and healing ... and how we need to reverse that order.
Here ... I continue to explore the effects of modern life on our bodies and our spirits, depicting the need for support of loved ones, the need to leave the cities and head for the hills and for the healing to begin.
The human spirit when broken and in time of need, must be supported through it's worst times. We need each other, we must love each other. Kindness and Gentleness are of the first order for human kind.
